Beautiful Contemporary Smoked Oak Kitchen
Washington, Sussex
It was joy to work with this client on their impeccably converted barn; a home-office and entertaining space was the ideal location for a compact Ashley Jay kitchen with a difference. Materials and textures were crucial in this design which sought to work seamlessly in this dramatic architectural project which marries the old and the new beautifully. A volcanic black TV area provides the perfect foil for a book-matched smokey oak veneer on the main units.
The depth of colour of the smokey oak finish was crucial to ensure the units sat back and provided a beautiful backdrop to the barn’s feature beams. The units are finished with antique brass handles, a striking brass sink and a stunning natural quartzite worktop; complemented by a river-washed vintage-oiled dining table, made for us by Spekva.

Lastly, we installed bespoke in-frame units in the rear store area in a contrasting in-frame shaker style. The pop of green here balances the sofa and provides relief from the darkness of the rest of the scheme, whilst being tied into the whole through matching handles.
Appliance features include an integrated wine cooler by Caple, a worktop mounted wine cooling bucket by Kaelo, boiling water tap by Quooker, fridge drawer by Liebherr, vented hob by Bora, a dishwasher by Siemens and the standout brass sink by 1810.
